Summer Song

It’s hot.

I mean really REALLY hot!

In Chicago, we are cold for 9 months out of the year.

A little cold.

A lot cold.

Polar vortex cold.

Damp, wet, miserable cold.

And then suddenly HOT, like today.

I would never complain of too much heat

because I wait all fall and winter and spring for this.

Just this.

There has been a bird singing constantly outside

since about noon.  Constantly.

I wonder if he is enjoying the heat too?

I would never complain about his song.

No, not even when the mourning dove

sits right on the window sill

effectively 4 feet from my head and

coo coo coos.

Amazing how loud that coo is in the morning.

They wake early, the birdies.

But I would never complain of birdsong

when winter is so quiet.
