Angels and Answers

I was expecting a cardinal.
Or was it a bluebird?
Or I don’t know …
a lowly sparrow
or a chickadee dee dee
or
or maybe a big honkin goose
but something
something feathered?

I’ve had this unease
this queasy unsettled feeling
expectant
with a side of dread
and seeking reassurance
I’ve appealed
to the universe
to outside
to quell inside

I was hoping for an angel
while expecting a cardinal
while hoping for anything.

The universe in inherently
ironic [don’t you think?!]
With a heightened hope
I looked around expectantly
thinking I would see an answer
an angel
or at least something feathered

when I opened my email and saw
“it’s all about the angel.”
Aha, I thought, there it is!

I read the entire email on
on high alert to the what nugget,
what message was for me,
what words would quell my unease
but I wasn’t finding them.

“You gotta stand tall,” it read and
“You gotta stand out” because
“It’s all about the angel.”

And then I reread. ANGLE.
All about the angle.

No birds or angels or feathers.
Should I be disappointed at
a message telling me to stand tall
and stand out?

So often the answer we hear
is not the one we wanted or
the way we wanted because let’s face it
I was looking for feathers
but I wouldn’t have liked the
irony of a goose either
even if the goose told me that
it is all ALL a matter of perspective
and angles.
